About the Project
Afripads is a social enterprise making reusable sanitary pads, based in Uganda, working to change menstrual health across Africa and beyond. Not just distributing pads, but building something that lasts: durable, cost-effective, waste-reducing.
When they launched their new line of underwear, they were in need of a video series to show the impact. Because pads alone were never the whole story. Projects that handed out reusable pads in rural areas and refugee settlements kept running into the same problem: no proper underwear to wear them with. Two years of design work with women and girls across Africa solved that: comfortable, well-fitting, built to last.
My Approach
I filmed, and edited three short films, each one seen through a different pair of eyes.
Esther, a lead tailor at the factory in Masaka, making the underwear that now supports her own family.
Moran, twelve years old, who used to miss school every month, and now doesn’t.
Christine, a field worker who has spent her career getting menstrual health into the hands of the girls who need it.
Three people. Three roles in the same chain production, use, distribution.
One idea running through all of it: this is not just underwear.
It’s employment. It’s education. It’s impact.
A fourth film closed the loop aimed at funders and partners, laying out what the product does and why it’s worth backing. The films reached over 10,000 people worldwide, and Afripads used them to open doors to new partners and new funding for distribution.
